We value positive relationships with parents and carers to help develop better social and emotional skills in children. We know that when children are engaged with their learning, they attend school more regularly, leading to better long term outcomes.
For parenting and counselling services, visit the Family Support page, and for direction and clarity on regulations, processes and procedures at our school, read the Sydney Catholic School policies.
Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Primary School North Strathfield (OLA) encourages and actively supports a positive, supportive partnership between home and school. The involvement of parents within the school is highly valued and encouraged. We work together to ensure that children develop social and emotional skills, and are consistently engaged in their learning leading to positive long-term outcomes.
Our parents remain actively connected with the school community through regular and effective communication. They are informed of events, expectations, and procedures through fortnightly newsletter publications, regular Compass updates, weekly assemblies, the OLA Facebook page, and the parent school calendar. There are many opportunities for parents to be involved in the life of the school. This includes volunteering to assist in the classroom and school library and assisting at major school events, excursions, and sporting events.
Each year parents are offered an opportunity to attend a ‘meet the teacher’ interview where the focus is on parents offering information about their children which will assist the classroom teachers in getting to know the student. A mid-year parent-teacher Interview offers the opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss the progress of individual students based on the school progress report. Parents are encouraged to openly communicate with teachers throughout the year and arrange a suitable appointment time to discuss their child’s progress.
Parents have an opportunity each term to attend PERGOLA (Parent Engagement Representative Group for Our Lady of the Assumption) more commonly known as the P&F in other schools. This group of volunteer parents works in close partnership with the school to support and assist in social and fundraising opportunities at OLA.
